Senatorial Campaign : Political Parties Intensify Preparations

Campaign strategies are already being adopted by political parties whose candidates for the Senatorial election were validated by Elections Cameroon. A total of 10 political parties will be participating in the March 12 poll and the objective of all political aspirants is to get as many votes as possible from the electorate who are made up of municipal and regional councillors. This election campaign is in accordance with Section 87(1) of the Electoral Code which states that the campaign shall open on the 15th day preceding the election and close at midnight on the eve of election day. At the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM), the only party participating in all ten regions, preparations are rife. Meetings are being held and strategies fine-tuned. According to Prof Elvis Ngolle Ngolle, Member of the Central Committee of the party, the objective is to maintain their stronghold as leading political party with the highest number of seats in the Senate. He noted that they have a manifesto which will be presented to the electorate in due time. 
Within the Social Democratic Front (SDF), they are counting on their political experience in the North West Region to maintain the seven seats the party currently holds. With the election being through an indirect universal suffrage, the party officials note that they will on a personal and collective basis meet councillors in the region to present their action plan. They note that they are still in the concertation phase which will however soon be completed and once the electoral campaign is launched, they will roll out their strategy.
