SDF : Nintcheu, 26 Others Expelled

Some twenty-seven members of the Social Democratic Front have been dismissed from the party. Their fate was decided at during a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting chaired by the National Chairman, John Fru Ndi on February 25, 2023 at the party’s headquarters in Yaounde. Those expelled, in accordance with Article 8.2 of the party’s text, include, Jean-Michel Nintcheu, Paul Tchatchouang, Denis Nkemlemo, Jean Tsomelu, Emmanuel Ntonga, Yoyo Emmanuel, amongst others. The aforementioned party Article calls for the dismissal (lost of membership) of a member who through an action, brought ridicule to the party.   The expelled members amongst other accusations have dragged the National Chairman to Court, calling him to annul NEC’s resolutions of July 23, 2022 and December 10, 2022, cancel his decision of June 7, 2022 appointing members of the Shadow Cabinet of the party and call off his decision of June 7, 2022 outlining members of NEC. The dismissed members accused the Chairman of not respecting party text in his appointment procedure. Going by Article 13.1 (a) of the party’s text, the National Chairman has the prerogative to appoint the shadow cabinet. And this shadow cabinet, Article 11.2(b) of the document stipulates, is done after consultations.
In his opening remarks, John Fru Ndi said there are constitutional provisions to address issues within the party rather than dragging a member to Court. “I want to look back in satisfaction when I hand over the mantle of leadership to someone younger. It is time for us to organise the party and move forward,” the Chairman stated.
