Buea : Peace Building Cultivated In Students

In the face of the sociopolitical upheavals in the North West and South West Regions many internally displaced students moved to Buea which is relatively safe. But this resulted in overcrowding in classrooms, poor interactions of the IDP, increase in hate inducing behaviors and violence in schools with host communities. Thus the lack of social cohesion. This is the findings Nkongho Christy Ayuk, Project Manager of Reach Out Cameroon presented in Buea on March 10, 2023 as they mark an end to project capitalization event.
To reverse this disturbing trend, Reach Out Cameroon engaged GBHS Muea, GHS Buea and St Theresia College Molyko Buea to a peace building project for six months. In these schools, Reach Out created nine peace clubs through which 326 young peace builders were trained within the project “Enhancing youth initiatives for peace: Empowering the next generation of peace advocates in Cameroon,” sponsored by International Civil Society Action Network (ICAN).
At the close of the event, the students, now peace advocates, presented poems, ballets, theatrical pieces and debates in which they highlighted the importance of peace and caring for one another. The event in Buea which earned them diplomas crowned the six months peace building process. Dr. T...
