Yale University College: Cameroonian Gets FCFA 100 Million Scholarship

 Fred Jr. Ebongue Makolle of Enko La Gaieté International School in Yaounde will be studying mathematics in the prestigious U.S institution.

The renowned United State Institution; Yale University College, known to have graduated many notable alumni, including five U.S. Presidents, will from its next academic year host Cameroon-born, Fred Jr. Ebongue Makolle.  Fred is the first student from Cameroon to enrol at Yale College in at least 15 years. He has been awarded a 92 per cent scholarship, representing over FCFA 100 million through four years to study mathematics.
Born on November 4, 1999 in Yaounde, Fred is an Upper Sixth (Grade 12) student of the Enko La Gaieté International School in Yaounde. His dream to study in Yale heightened when he alongside other three Cameroonians attended the Yale Young African Scholars (YYAS) summer programme last year in Zimbabwe. The YYAS is a highly selective week-long academic enrichment programme designed for high-achieving secondary school students. With an admission rate of only 6.3 per cent, Yale is one of the most selective members of the Ivy League. Moreover, international students at Yale represent only 11 per cent of the total undergraduate population with three per cent from Africa.
