International Relations : Stakeholders Encourage More Female Representation

A conference was organised to that effect in Yaounde on March 28, 2023 by CEIDES in partnership with the Spanish Embassy.

Within its missions of advocating for more female representation in leadership positions at the national and international levels, the African Center for International, Diplomatic, Economic and Strategies Studies (CEIDES), in partnership with the Spanish Embassy has organised an empowerment conference. The get-together held on March 28, 2023 on the theme, “Equality of men and women in international relations: theories, practices and engagements.” The Spanish Ambassador to Cameroon, Ignacio Garcia Lumbreras was main speaker at the conference, alongside other panelists with specialties in different domains of international relations. 
In his presentation, the diplomat noted that every country has its own problems and can inspire as well as share its experiences in but there are no universal solutions to these questions.  “Each society has its own problematic but what we have learnt in Spain and what we can share with Cameroon is that this is an ongoing process which does not really have an ending. You can have mechanisms, institutions but the most important, I would say, is through education,” he stated. According to the Ambassador, gender equality is a human right and the basis to achieve this is through education whereby the capacities of women can be developed. He also acknowledged the fact that the process is evolving in Spain, just like in Cameroon. “There is this ongoing effort of proper representation of women in the decision making process. I see a lot of Ministries, especially the Ministry of External Relations with many women in prominent and important roles which I deal with every day.
