Cameroon-United Nations : Peace-centred Cooperation

The Cameroon-United Nations relation is settled on the promotion of peace and the respect of human rights. Having joined the international organisation as member on September 20, 1960, Cameroon has since then made an effort to promote democratic values as incarnated by the United Nations. Over the years, cooperation ties between both parties have evolved and is being evaluated on the participation of Cameroon in the life of the Organisation, visit of high ranking UN officials to Cameroon, the placement of Cameroonians at the helm of various UN organs, the role of Cameroon in the peace and security framework of the organisation, and, the role of UN systems in the development efforts of Cameroon. It is within this backdrop and within the perspective of enhancing these cooperation ties that the President of the Republic, Paul Biya, on March 29, 2023 granted an audience to the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General for Central Africa and the Head of the United Nations Regional Office for Central Africa (UNOCA), Abdou Abarry. The Nigerien-born official who officially took office in September 2022 told reporters after the audience that besides reviewing collaboration mechanisms, he again mentioned the availability of the United Nations to promoting peace and security in Cameroon. 
As peacekeeping allies, the United Nations supervised the signing of the Green Tree Accord which put an end to the land dispute between Cameroon and Nigeria over the Bakassi Peninsular. In addition, Cameroon, on a yearly basis, sends troops to the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilisation Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) for peacekeeping.
