Senate : Session As Of Right Holds Tomorrow

Ahead of the meeting on April 11, 2023, Senators are being lodged at the Mont Febe Hotel in Yaounde.
Senators shall tomorrow April 11, 2023 meet in a session as of right. This is in accordance with legal dispositions as stated in the Electoral Code. Section 215 (2) of the said Code states that the Senate shall meet as of right in an ordinary session on the third Tuesday after the proclamation of results by the Constitutional Council. With the results being published on Thursday March 23, 2023, the Senate shall thus meet in its session as of right tomorrow April 11, 2023. The term of Senators shall commence on the day of the ordinary session following the election, being the expiry date of the term of the incumbent Senators. During the session as of right, the lawmakers shall receive their attributes. The session as of right thus marks the beginning of the five-year term of office of Senators. Both elected and appointed Senators meet in the session as of right. “Each region shall be represented in the Senate by 10 Senators, seven of whom shall be elected by indirect universal suffrage on a regional basis and three appointed by decree of the President of the Republic,” states Section 214 of the Electoral Code. The House is now complete and can thus meet in its ordinary session as of right. The exact number of days of the session is not given, but the law stipulates that it is not expected to go beyond 15 days.
The session as of right will basically consist in the verification of documents of the lawmakers to avoid incompatibilities.
