NW, SW Recovery : Councils To Meet Local Development Needs

Stakeholders in Bamenda on April 14, 2023, validated the project proposal for Supporting crisis-affected regions .

Four pioneer Councils including Santa and Bamenda II in the North West, and Tiko and Limbe in the South West Regions have been selected to work on the project proposal, supporting crisis affected communities with the bottom-up solutions approach. Stakeholders involved in assessing the support projects for the crisisaffected communities in the two regions launched by International Labour Organisation and International Organization for Migration validated the plan in Bamenda on April 14, 2023. The two international bodies organised a workshop with the aim to support local governance and bottom pathways for recovery in the English-speaking regions. The four- year project plan to engage local communities for decent job creation is intended to address development needs hampered by the crisis as well as restore peace in the restive regions. According to a representative of ILO, Ombolo Cyrano, the initiative by ILO, IOM and partner ministries in Cameroon will offer job opportunities for youths, women and IDPs. The priority actions will comprise community engagement, social dialogue and capacity building. The Programme Manager of IOM, Hamish Baverstock explained that the project was launched to assess the needs of the -ffected communities within the humanitarian development nexus while working with humanitarian, peace-building and development actors.
