Decentralisation, Local Development : Minister Takes Pulse Of Buea Local Institutions
Georges Elanga Obam inspected offices of the Regional Assembly, the Public Independent Conciliator and NASLA in Buea on May 2, 2023.
“I think that decentralisation is on the good path and the people are getting to understand the process more and more”, those were the words of the Minister of Decentralisation and Local Development, Georges Elanga Obam as he concluded a tour of three major institutions based in Buea under his portfolio last May 2, 2023. The Minister, accompanied by South West Governor, Bernard Okalia Bilai and the local command staff, visited the premises and offices of the Regional Assembly. While there, the President of the Assembly, Zacheus Bakoma Elango, explained the role of each staff. The Minister held brief working sessions with the authorities of the Assembly behind closed doors.
The second stopover was at the office of the South West Public Independent Conciliator where Telelen Dorothy Atabong Motaze showed round their offices and presented the staff before holding a briefing in camera with the Minister, Governor and the visiting delegation.
The third and last visit was at the National School for Local Administration (NASLA) where the Deputy Director General of the institution and senior staff of the school held a brief working session with the visiting Minister of Decentralisation and Local Development. The Minister concluded his visit to NASLA by addressing the first intake of students, urging them to be the example and pioneers of the decentralisation drive in Cameroon. He explained that the trainees were expected to boost decentralisation through their individual and collective performances.
