Second Region Military Hospital : Consultation For All

More than 70 per cent of patients in the Military hospital Bonanjo-Douala are civilians.
It was a busy day at the Second Region Military Hospital Bonanjo-Douala on Friday, May 12, as patients both uniform officers and civilians thronged in for consultations in the different departments of the hospital. All the services and their staff were active and conscious of taking care of their patients. The receptionists and secretaries at the different services were welcoming and ready to assist whenever need be. In a chat with the Deputy Director of the Regional Military Hospital, Colonel Pierre David Ebosse, who is also the Chief of Intensive Care and Emergencies at the hospital, it was clear that civilians were aware of the fact that the hospital is not for uniform officers only but for the entire public.
The medical doctor revealed that they have a cordial relationship with the population. While acknowledging that their missions to take care of uniform officers and their families, he said they also have as responsibility to take care of the civilian population. While quoting a presidential decree signed more than 50 years ago, he said the hospital of armed forces was open to the public. He said it was their duty to contribute to the health of the population while adding that more than 70 per cent of their patients are civilians. He also added that their services were cheaper and they are available round the clock.
He said they have cases whereby patients come without money, especially in the emergency unit but then he said their role is to treat first before asking for money. He said after treatment some are unable to pay, and some even take engagement to pay later but at times they never return.
