2023 Cup of Cameroon : Amateur Clubs Stay On

Some of them have succeeded to progress to the 16th finals following the end of the 32nd finals yesterday May 29, 2023.

The 32nd finals of the Cup of Cameroon which started May 26, 2023 ended yesterday May 29, 2023 producing the 16 finalists of the competition. Even though a majority of elite clubs stood their grounds and defended their names, some amateur clubs equally created surprises. Amateur side, Edu Sport Academy’s victory over First Division side Aigle of Menoua is one of the greatest shocks of this phase. The amateur club succeeded to hold the Elite One side to a goalless draw till the end of regular play time on Sunday May 28, 2023. It was during post-match penalty shootouts that Edu overpowered Aigle Menoua (4-3). The journey has thus ended for David Pagou’s Aigle of Menoua, while Edu continues with the hope of creating more upsets. Amateur side Hilltop Strikers equally succeeded to defeat Elite One Side, Gazelle 4-3 to sail to the 16th finals. Renaissance of Ngoumou and FC Yaounde II that were both relegated to the second division this season were booted out of the Cameroon Cup by amateur sides AS Futuro and Pouma Football Club respectively
Another amateur side that have qualified for the 16th finals is Krimi FC of Garoua that thrashed newly relegated Ofta of Kribi. It is thus an aching season for Ofta as they have equally been prematurely booted out in the Cup of Cameroon. Atlantic FC of Kribi equally surprised many as they beat second tier side Foncha Street 4-3 after post-match penalty shootouts.
