Charity : Chantal Biya Champions Course For Paediatric Cancers

She chaired the annual charity gala organised by the Sovereign Order of Malta over the weekend in Yaounde.
In a convivial and compassionate manner, the First Lady of Cameroon, Chantal Biya, joined scores of guests in a gathering that sought to ensure better healthcare for Cameroonians especially children suffering from cancer, vulnerable persons and people living with HIV/AIDs. This was during a charity gala organised by the Sovereign Order of Malta in Cameroon on Saturday June 3, 2023 in Yaounde.
The First Lady joined personalities among whom the Grand Hospitaller of the Sovereign Order of Malta, H.E Fra’ Alessandro de Franciscis, the Ambassador of the Sovereign Order of Malta in Cameroon, Jean-Christophe Heidsieck, Cameroon’s Minister of Social Affairs, Pauline Iréne Nguene née Kendeck to raise some FCFA 30 million geared towards fostering the humanitarian works of the Sovereign Order of Malta in Cameroon, particularly at the Saint John of Malta Hospital in Njombe, Moungo Division of the Littoral Region, Rohan-Chabot leprosarium in Mokolo, Mayo Tsanaga Division of the Far-North Region and the Paediatric Oncology Centre located at the Chantal Biya Foundation in Yaounde.
In a relaxed atmosphere during dinner, Maître Ludovic Morand, Auctioneer and Former President of the Compagnie des Commissaires-Priseurs Judiciaires de Paris coordinated the auction sale of items such as metal statuettes, whisky, champagne, bags of coffee, non-standard pictures, a wrist watch and a male suit. For the love and care towards those in need, the audience raised the bar in bargaining for the products on sale. A wooden statuette from Nigerian was bought at FCFA 1.4 million, a non-standard picture was sold at FCFA 4.2 million and four bottles of whisky aged 38 were sold at FCFA 3 million. The auction unfolded in three sessions and spiced with music from an orchestra, raise some FCFA 30 million.
Grand Hospitaller of the Sovereign Order of Malta, H.E Fra’ Alessandro de Franciscis, recounted the history of the Order. He said its activities and the method of financing the Sovereign Order of Malta is now focusing exclusively on humanitarian actions. The Order works in more than 120 countries and its humanitarian action-mainly focused on the fight against disease and poverty- is relayed by its diplomatic missions present in 107 countries and its specialised agencies.
