Publishing, Graphic Arts Department : Zoom On Book Production, Audio-visual Press

Activities to commemorate the golden jubilee of the Advanced School of Mass Communication continued last Friday June 9th at the school campus in Yaounde with the Department of Publishing and Graphic Arts in the limelight. The day was characterised by roundtable discussions on topics such as book production, the book chain and publishing in print media. The 50th anniversary is taking place under the theme: “50 years of life in the service of excellence in information and communication.”
Roundtable discussions began with an introductory note from the Head of the Publishing and Graphic Arts Department, Professor Ndibi. He noted that Publishing is the conception and fixation of works of the mind on a physical or digital medium intended to be made available to a specific audience. According to him, no communication content is published without prior editing. Also, students in the department receive training in other communication fields such as journalism, communication etc. In the department, students learn about the book publishing environment, companies and institutions. They also master the tools of creation, production and management in publishing products (books, records, audio-visual programmes) as well as the fields of marketing and distribution/sales of editorial products.
Friday’s event was an occasion for students in the department to present projects they have realised in terms of publishing, print and audio-visual magazine. Thereafter, they had discussions with professionals on various topics. The first was on the book chain through which speakers talked about book production in Cameroon, the book policy as well as the process of printing a book.
