Commonwealth Parliament : Organising Committee Presents Stakes

A press conference was given on July 14, 2023 by the President of the Organising Committee, Hon. Mary Muyali Meboka.
Ahead of the official opening of the 18th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth Parliament on Tuesday July 18, 2023 in Yaounde, the President of the Organising Committee, Hon. Mary Muyali Meboka who doubles as the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Cameron has granted a press conference on the stakes and prospects of the nine-day get-together. The press confab of July 14, 2023 gave highlights on the practical benefits of hosting such an encounter and contemporary challenges these parliaments must surmount for the general wellbeing of all citizens. Holding under the theme, “Parliaments and Agenda 2063,” the conference which began on July 13, 2023 ends on July 22, 2023 with the official closing ceremony slated for July 20.
Presenting the objectives of the conference, Hon. Mary Muyali Meboka said it provides a unique opportunity for Speakers and Presiding Officers of Parliaments in the Commonwealth to exchange information and express views on matters of common concern. “The conference therefore seeks to maintain, foster and encourage impartiality and fairness on the part of Speakers and Presiding Officers. Impartiality and fairness of the Speaker and Presiding Officer means equal treatment of MPs and issues, and equal application of the law, rule and procedures, irrespective of an MP’s political leaning, with the understanding that MPs are the representatives of the people,” she stated. The Chairperson of the Organising Committee also added that the conference seeks to promote knowledge and understanding of parliamentary democracy as well as develop parliamentary institutions.
