Limbe : Repentant Poachers Now Skillful In Industrial Work

Previously they hunted protected species in the Mount Cameroon National Park.
Repentant poachers in the Mount Cameroon National Park are now on a new part of life. They are skilled professionals in industrial welding, mechanic and driving, hotel management and catering, and computer service and network maintenance. They were each handed the required tools as per their trades to begin their enterprises. This initiative was championed by the Programme for the Sustainable Management of Natural Resources in the South West Region of Cameroon (PSMNR-SW). They are on a mission to discourage poaching in the Mount Cameroon National Park and other reserves in the South West where poachers hunt protected species animals like class A and B which include elephants, porcupines among others. The trainees, 15 male repentant poachers and five female pepper soup bush meat sellers concluded a one year training programme at the Limbe Advanced Training Centre (AVTC) on July 15, 2023. They graduated alongside six others trainees sponsored by Fondation Michel Meke.
Tesey Eposi Ndima, Fako Divisional Delegate for MINFOF, said vocational training is a vaccine against unemployment, dependency and hunger. She encouraged the trainees to immediately put their skills into practice as the State of Cameroon looks up to them as wealth and employment creators.
