Killing Of 10 Persons In Bamenda : Population Protests Against Barbaric Act

A mammoth crowd turned out at the Grand Stand in Commercial Avenue in Bamenda yesterday, July 20, 2023 to take part in a protest march against the wanton killings in the region. The march was organised by the City Mayor, Paul Achobong in collaboration with the Bamenda II and III Councils to denounce the killing of 10 civilians on Sunday July 16, 2023 around the Nacho Junction.
Initially slated to take off from the City Chemist roundabout, the march finally took place from the Bamenda Grand Stand to the main market entrance and back along the Commercial Avenue. The protestors, were all clad in black, brandished peace plants with some bearing wreaths. They also carried banners reading ‘stop the killings’ Bamenda City Council mourns’ and marched to the tune of ‘Mbakelem’ dance group that was also present. They were escorted by some motorbike riders and there was security to dissuade trouble makers. 
After the march, the City Mayor addressed the crowd calling on parents to take good care of their children so that they do not get involved in criminality or take hard drugs that would push them to waywardness. He also frowned at those who sell tramadol, considered a hard drug, to youths.
