The event took place in Fako Divisional headquarters, Limbe yesterday August 9, 2023 with South West Governor representing the Head of State.
Five civil servants working in Ndian Division of the South West Region who were kidnapped on 15 June, 2021 and later killed and buried in a mass grave in a forest near Ekondo Titi have been honoured. A ceremony to give the deceased an official burial was chaired in Limbe, headquarters of Fako Division, yesterday by Governor Bernard Okalia Bilai representing the Head of State. A gloomy atmosphere marked the event that kicked off at 11:15 am and ran till 1pm at the Centenary stadium in Limbe. An ecumenical service marked the event.
In the Governor’s eulogy sitting in for the Head of State, Bernard Okalia Bilai lamented that
‘separatist was killing their brothers and showing as a trophy to the public”. He said the illusionary quest for separation had led criminals to bring untold hardship to bear on the people. The Gvernor presented the fallen civil servants as follows: Agbor Stephen Nyenty, Divisional Chief of Surveys in Ndian, Felicia Njweng Ndong; Divisional Delegate for MINDUH in Ndian; Mbida Armand Christian Divisional, Delegate for MINPMEESA in Ndian, Elad Emmanuel, Divisional Delegate of MINEE, and Mambe Elvis Ebaku, Divisional Delegate of MINDCAF in Ndian. The sixth victim who fell alongside these colleagues was Mabia Johnson, Divisional Delegate for MINEPAT whose official funeral had been officiated because his corps was immediately found earlier than the current ones.
Before the remains were taken to the Limbe Regional Hospital for preservation and at the disposal of the families, the representative of the Head of State, Governor Bernard Okalia Bilai and the various dignitaries took their turns to bow before the caskets.
