The unfortunate incident of September 7, 2023 caused the lives of two persons.
Muea, a peripheral agglomeration of Buea awoke yesterday to scaring gunshots. Armed men burnt down at least two hustling vehicles near the Muea market as an enforcement of a propagated lock-down declared through social media to prevent school resumption. Fear and consternation gripped the population of Buea in the early morning of yesterday September 7, 2023 as gunshots were heard in the peripheral area by 6 a.m. For over 30 minutes, the shooting went on nonstop, scaring many who were about to attend the weekly popular Muea market. Some two privately owned vehicles were seen on fire, suspectedly burnt by armed separatists.
Since the resumption of the 2023-2024 academic year, schools in the area could not receive pupils and students due to threats of ghost towns by armed fighters who had been using social media to fuel school boycott. The fighters are dictating against school resumption and have declared a two-week ghost town with no school.
