Protection of Human Rights : People Living With Disabilities Schooled

This was during a workshop that took place in Douala 25-27 September, 2023.
On a daily basis, people living with disabilities face challenges in carrying out their activities. To make sure that they are being mainstreamed in the society, they have been receiving training on different sectors including human rights. As a result, UNESCO Regional Office for Central Africa organized a three-day capacity-building workshop on the evaluation, rationalisation and simplification of the system for evaluating and referral system for people with disabilities in Cameroon, in accordance with national and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The workshop that brought together associations of PLWD from the ten regions of Cameroon included key ministries like Social Affairs, Public Health. During the workshop, participants were drilled on human rights, inclusion and more.
While speaking to the press, the Chief of Sector of Humanitarian and Social Services in UNESCO central Africa office, Yvonne Matuturu, explained that the workshop was part of the project to support the reinforcement of the rights of people living with a disability, of accessibility, inclusive services and non-discrimination in Cameroon.
