Saving Lake Chad : Commission members Brainstorm

As part of the effective implementation of the Lake Chad Basin Water Charter and its annexes, the LCBC in collaboration with the project “Applied management of water resources in the Lake Chad Basin II” of the GIZ has organized a consultation meeting with national institutions providing data to discuss the issue of data sharing and exchange.
The meeting, that is taking place in Douala from October 24-26, is aim at raising awareness and discuss with the institutions providing data on certain provisions of the Water Charter and the data exchange protocol signed in 2008. The meeting will also identify the problems linked to data sharing despite the existing legal framework, propose the best strategy and approach for effective data sharing with the LCBC in order to ensure the supply of the regional database and make the exchange and sharing of data operational between the LCBC and its member.
The watershed Management Cycle at the LCBC is a steering and coordination tool for the sustainable management of water resources taking into account the differing needs and interest of all stakeholders involved. Since 2021, the Lake Chad Basin Commission is implementing the Lake Chad Basin Management Cycle. To this end, a concept for the implementation of the cycle aligned to the specific regional conditions was validated by the LCBC and the member countries and a roadmap for implementation was adopted in 2021.
