Diplomacy : Significant Presence

Cameroon’s diplomatic missions have increased abroad as well as resident embassies and consular posts.
Sustaining vivacious diplomatic relations with other countries through resident and non-resident Embassies and High Commissions of Cameroon remains a pivotal policy of the Head of State as concerns bilateral and international relations. For over the 41-year reign of President Paul Biya, the number of Cameroon’s diplomatic missions abroad has increased and more resident representative missions opened in the country. At the moment, there are 39 resident Embassies and High Commissions in Cameroon, with the Indian High Commission, opened in September 2019 being the latest. There are 12 consular missions in the towns of Douala (8), Buea (1), Garouua (2) and Ebolowa (1). A total of 49 non-resident Embassies and High Commissions are also accredited to Cameroon. As concerns other diplomatic missions, the European Union has a resident Ambassador and Head of Delegation in Yaounde.
With regards to Cameroon’s diplomatic representation abroad, there exist 38 ambassadorial posts excluding Consulates; 17 in Africa, three in the Americans, 10 in Europe and eight in Asia. For multilateral organisations, Cameroon has permanent missions at the Africa Union (Addis Ababa), United Nations (New York and Geneva) and UNESCO (Paris). There is also Cameroonian resident delegation to the International Civil Aviation Organisation in Montreal.
Within international organisations such as the Commonwealth of Nations, Cameroon’s presence is strongly noticed with the country having hosted the 60th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference in October 2014, the 18th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth (CSPOC) Africa Region in July 2023 and the Commonwealth Local Government Forum for West and Central Africa in July 2023.
