The Africans put up a tough fight against the Europeans. Much less dominant than in the quarter-finals against Uzbekistan, Jean-Luc Vannuchi's players suffered from the start against the Malian fury. In goal, Paul Argney held his own for a long time before finally making a fatal mistake just before the break. It was Ibrahim Diarra who did what no other player has done at Indonesia 2023, by scoring against France. France had gone for record five matches in the tournament without conceding, Yvann Titi and Ismail Bouneb both scored for France in the second half to give them the victory over the African side.
