2024 State Budget : High Hopes On Implementation After Adoption

Cameroonians are hopeful that the adopted FCFA 4,740 billion State budget will be used for the realisation of major infrastructural projects.
The National Assembly, after general debates has adopted the 2024 draft State budget which stands at FCFA 6,740 billion 100 million, balanced in resources and expenditure. The legal instrument was adopted after general debates, during a plenary sitting chaired by the House Speaker, Cavaye Yeguie Djibril, on December 6, 2023. The Minister of Finance, Louis Paul Motaze, who defended the document before members of the Finance and Budget Committee of the lawmaking institution, presented further clarifications to the legislators on how the money will be generated, as well as its use. Other members of government equally responded to questions relating to their respective sectors.
On proceeds and revenue applicable to the general budget, estimated at FCFA 679.5 billion, Minister Louis Paul Motaze explained that it will be raised through taxes on revenues, profit and capital gains, taxes on salaries and other remuneration, internal taxes and duties on goods and services, taxes on foreign trade and international transactions, amongst others. As for loans, he stated that treasury bonds will be issued and multilateral project loans solicited. Income from State property, administrative fees, and penalties are expected to also generate money at the public treasury. As concerns expenditure, Minister Louis Paul Motaze noted that a chuck will be used for the payment of salaries of personnel, rent, purchase of goods, transport and mission expenses, water, electricity, gas and other energy sources.
