Guangzhou, A City With Much To Envy

Guangzhou, the headquarters of Guangdong province of China, is generally known as the millennium capital city located near the South China Sea, adjacent to Hong Kong. With its subtropical monsoon climates characterized by mild and temperate summers and winter, it attracts businessmen from Africa, some of them from Cameroon. During study tour sessions of the summit, delegates were touched by the modern buildings and industrial activities of the city.
But this is not what struck most visitors. The disciplined nature of the inhabitants and the cleanliness which could be seen in the streets as well as in the shops drew the attention of many. Asked what is the secret behind all this, a Chinese colleague said, “Hard work, discipline and above all, love for our country.” In short, patriotism is the lever to what China is proud of. As an economic hub of mainland China, Guangzhou with average growth rate of 7.7 per cent has a GDP exceeding 20, 000 US Dollars. What an economic giant!
This affluence attracts, not only businessmen, but also political leaders. French President Emmanuel Macron during his visit to Guangzhou last April 7 was honourably received by Chinese President Xi Jinping who described Guangzhou as the birthplace of China’s democratic revolution and forefront of the nation’s reform.
