Second Global Refugee Forum : External Relations Minister Represents Cameroon

Minister Mbella Mbella presented a statement at the opening plenary in Geneva on measures being taken by government on the management of refugees in the country.
An estimated one million four hundred thousand CAR nationals are on forced displacements in seven major countries; Cameroon, Chad, Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Sudan and South Sudan. Of the total number, Cameroon as at March 31, 2022 is host to some 345, 587 CAR refugees, mostly women, children and elderly persons, according to statistics from the Ministry of Territorial Administration. At the second global refugee forum which held in Geneva, Switzerland from December 13-15, 2023, External Relations Minister, Mbella Mbella led the Cameroonian delegation to the summit, and delivered a statement at the opening plenary on measures being taken by government on the management of refugees in the country.
Minister Mbella Mbella in his statement recalled that Cameroon in April 2022 hosted the regional ministerial conference on solutions to forced displacements due to the crisis in the neigbouring nation. The three-day conference (first of its kind at the sub-regional level of the continent) aimed at mobilising major stakeholders (governments, humanitarian and development partners, regional economic communities) involved in seeking solutions to forced movements provoked by the crisis in the Central African Republic, to come up with a guideline for implementing identified actions. The Minister mentioned the Tripartite Accord between Cameroon, UNHCR and CAR on the voluntary return of the nationals to their home country, which the Minister insisted, is in accordance with the international pact on refugees.
