The population of Buea went about their usual activities yesterday, following gunshots in the evening of Monday in the neighbourhood of Bwitingi near Molyko, which left one person dead.
The administration of Buea is still staging a manhunt after armed men who attacked a neighbourhood in Buea, (Bwitingi) near the Buea Central market in the South West Regional Capital, in the evening of 29 January, 2024.
The gunmen benefitted from the concentration of the population who were glued to their TV sets watching the Africa Cup of Nations matches and burned down five vehicles and killing one Derick Mula Musonge, a native of Bova village, in Buea.
South West Governor, Bernard Okalia Bilai, told the press yesterday midday, that the armed men will be tracked down. He urged the population to remain vigilant and to denounce any suspects. ‘‘We must terrorise the terrorists by denouncing them’’, the Governor went on. The Chief Executive of the Region explained that the forces of law and order have conquered the terrorists in the bushes but that some of them have infiltrated and are living among the population, requiring a stronger collaboration between the population and the administration to get hold of them. This collaboration can only be manifested through denouncing any suspects before they hatch their plans, he said. Obviously, there has been greater achievement towards peace and calm relating to the crisis situation. But, as the Governor said, the population must remain vigilant against any surprise attacks.
