AFCON 2023 : Platform For New Club Destinations

Some players, including Cameroonian stars, Karl Toko Ekambi and Faris Pemi Moumbagna got new deals during the AFCON.
The dust is yet to settle on the thrilling 2023 AFCON, but the reverberations extend beyond the final whistle. While a champion is about to be crowned and some hearts broken, the tournament is serving as a springboard for several players to new clubs.
Côte d’Ivoire’s midfield dynamo, Seko Fofana, despite arriving at Al Nassr just last summer, embarks on a new chapter with a six-month loan to fellow Saudi club Al-Ettifaq. It should be recalled that Fofana scored the first goal of the ongoing 2023 AFCON.
Cameroonian striker Karl Toko Ekambi who recently announced his retirement from international football, has embarked on a unique reunion, leaving Abha FC but staying within the Saudi league to join Al-Ettifaq just like Seko Fofana. The move is good tactical adjustments and a chance for Toko-Ekambi to revitalize his form.
Another Cameroonian striker, Faris Pemi Moumbagna also found a new destination during the ongoing AFCON. The 23-year-old from Bodø/Glimt has moved to Olympique de Marseille and has already made his debut with the club. Moumbagna's performance at AFCON caught the eye, and Marseille hopes he can translate his Norwegian success to Ligue 1. Leonel Ateba, is also another Cameroonian striker who has left Dynamo Douala for a fresh start, signing a two-and-a-half-year deal with Algerian club USM Alger.
