More often, people spread unfounded stories on social media to propagate prejudiced opinions about others.
Today, many people now get news from social media sites and networks. Often, it can be difficult to tell whether the stories are credible or not. Information galore and a general lack of understanding about how the internet works by many people has also contributed to an increase in fake news or hoax stories. But why do people create and spread fake news on social media? This is the question many people are yet to understand and answer. However, information indicates that there are those who seek to gain online fame and money, whereas others use fake news to deform the image and reputation of others in the society.
Nowadays, people are using the social media to settle personal scores with friends or partners. It is common to see nude pictures of people over the internet. Recently, a woman asked for a divorce in a marriage which she considered not worth enduring any longer. In an attempt to tannish the reputation of the lady, the husband openly told her how he was going to destroy her image and reputation to the extent that no other man will ever want or need her. Before the lady could realise, her nude pictures were online. After investigations, it was revealed that the ”ex-husband” was behind the act. There are also several other people who have seen their nude pictures trending on social media from sources unknown to them. That which is certain is the fact that these images are coming from malicious people.
