Cameroon-European Union : Security, General Issues Scrutinised

A structured political dialogue between the two parties held on April 9, 2024 at the Ministry of External Relations.
Executing development projects and carrying out smooth commercial exchanges are largely dependent on security. Cameroon and the European Union are two partners that accord central place to security and commercial exchanges, for the wellbeing of their citizens. It is against this backdrop that a Cameroon-European Union structured political dialogue was held on April 9, 2024 at the Ministry of External Relations with exchanges on the “Business climate in Cameroon and the regional security situation in Central Africa.” Deliberations were co-chaired by the Minister of External Relations, Mbella Mbella and the Ambassador, Head of the European Union Delegation in Cameroon, Jean Marc Chataigner, in the presence Heads of Diplomatic missions of member countries of the European Union. In the course of the exchanges, the two parties saluted cooperation ties with the objective of reinforcing them within the context of the putting in place of the Post-Cotonou Accord. The next meeting between Cameroon and the European Union is programmed for June 2024 within the framework of the first session of the Partnership Dialogue. In his statement, External Relations Minister, Mbella Mbella said security and business are two issues that constantly occupy centre stage in discussions during the two parties and is an issue that has several complexities in contemporary times especially with the growing humanitarian situation in the sub region, the influx of refugees in Cameroon, global challenges arising from the Russia-Ukraine crisis and other na- tural happenings. “The government of Cameroon continues to secure peace and stability in the North West and South West Regions of Cameroon, and also in the Far North Region where they continue to fight against the terrorist group of Boko Haram,” the Minister sata...
