“There Are Lots Of Prerequisites, Conditions To Be Fulfilled”

-Tanyitiku E. Bayee, Director General of NASLA.

Given that the last date to receive application files to sit the entrance exam into NASLA is tomorrow, sir, how many candidates’ files have been received so far?
As of 16 April, 2024 some 1,500 candidates already deposited their files. Before then, we used to have about 5 to 7 files a day. From then we are having about 40 to 60 files a day now. The current figures of the last week are significantly high.

Will there be any possibility to extend the date of submission of files?
We are studying that possibility for the simple reason that there was a misunderstanding with the terminology that Buea is the lone centre of the exam and some candidates thought that they have to bring their files right to Buea. So, we have a situation where many candidates have downloaded their files and are all moving towards Buea to come and submit their them. We are reiterating here that the candidates can deposit their files in all the Regional Delegations of the Ministry of Decentralisation and Local Development as well as the NASLA School in Buea. So they do not need to travel to Buea for that sake. They only need to come to Buea to write the exam. With that in mind, we are examining the possibility of an extension of the date to deposit files. By the end of today, we shall issue a communiqué to clear the misunderstanding.

Can we say that candidates’ enthusiasm this year is greater than last year or is it less?
From the figures that I have, my impression is that we are slightly below the figure that we were having last year. I cannot readily say if it is a drop in enthusiasm or it is the point I just touched about the little misunderstanding of where to deposit the files.

The question of uncertainty of employment may also be dampening the enthusiasm. Isn’t it?
That may also be part of the reason for the drop from what I hear. But, until the end of the exercise with what we are considering as extension, so can we make a clear analysis. But I know that the issue of certainty of employment is also weighing ...
