Boosting Private Sector : Gov’t Assures Effective Collaboration

Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute yesterday April 24, 2024 received a delegation of GECAM, led by its President, Célestine Tawamba.

Developing the private sector for a more resilient economy is a cardinal point in the National Development Strategy 2020-2030 of Cameroon. To achieve this objective, government constantly encourages private sector initiatives as a means of boosting investment. It is against this backdrop that the Prime Minister, Head of Government, Joseph Dion Ngute received the newly elected bureau of the Union of Cameroonian Enterprises (GECAM), led by its President, Celestine Tawamba on April 24, 2024. In effect, the bureau was elected on April 9, 2024 in Douala, during its first elective general assembly, after a merger between the defunct Cameroon Employers’ Association (GICAM) and Enterprises of Cameroon (ECAM). The delegation was thus at the Star Building to present themselves to the Head of Government and chart collaboration mechanisms.
The statement of the President of GECAM, Celestine Tawamba notes that the dynamic team will enhance public-private dialogue as a catalyst for development. “We explained to the Prime Minister the problems being faced by our members and finding a way to tackle them. We also expect to change the paradigm of dialogue between the private sector and the government for it to be more pragmatic in the future,” he stated. When asked as to what will change in the private sector investment with the coming of GECAM, Celestine Tawamba explained that their mode of operation will change as they are better structured to see to the implementation of what will be proposed by the State as well as various texts, whether fiscal or those coming from different ministries. “We are taking off from the view point of collaboration,” he emphasized.
