Rugby Women’s Cup 2024 : Lionesses In Madagascar

The national women’s rugby V team is in Madagascar where they will take part in the African Women’s Rugby Cup in Madagascar from May 4 to 12, 2024. The delegation left the country on Wednesday May 1, 2024 for Antananarivo where they will defend the coulours of the country. Prior to their departure, the rugby national women’s rugby team trained in their hide out in Akono, near Yaounde in order to put up an honourable performance in the competition. Some 32 players were selected for the training session in the campus of Collège Stoll in Akono. At the end of the training session, 29 players were selected to make the trip to Antananarivo, Madagascar.
During their training in Akono, the Lionesses played several test matches to enable the technical staff to have an idea of the level of work done during the training session. Sources closed to the national women’s rugby team say the team had a technical meeting on Tuesday April 30, 2024 at the Foyer des Sœurs in Messamendongo neigbourhood. According to our source, the players received all their stipends for the competition before leaving the country. The players also received equipment kits that will be used during the competition which is also qualification for the World Cup. Qualified to take part in the competition are the women's teams of South Africa, host country Madagascar, Kenya and Cameroon. The Lionesses need two victories to enable them compete with the top teams on the continent.
