National Day: Bamenda Celebrates In Glamour

A mammoth crowd turned out at the Commercial Avenue Grand Stand to celebrate the 52nd edition of the National Day.


For the first time since the outbreak of the crisis in the North West and South West Regions, a mammoth crowd turned out the Commercial Avenue Grand Stand to celebrate the 52nd edition of the National Day. The celebration which took place on the theme, ‘Army and the Nation: Together for a united, peaceful and prosperous Cameroon,” was chaired by the Governor of the North West Region, Adolphe Lele Lafrique. The ceremony consisted of the award of medals to some 51 meritorious workers followed by a military and civilian march past. The medals awarded ranged from the Cameroon Order of Valour to Public Force passing through Officer, Knight and Sports Order of Merit. Prominent among the recipients was the Rector of the University of Bamenda. Recipients were allowed to receive flowers and take photos with friends and family members before giving way to the military march past.
The military march past which took place under the command of the Commander of the 51st Engineering Regiment, Colonel Tetcha Felix, comprised the march past of foot soldiers and a motorized parade including elements of music company, the national flag guards, the Rapid Intervention Battalion, infantry, Army Engineering corps, air force, fire-fighters brigade, the National Gendarmerie, Police, Ex-servicemen, Penitentiary Administration, Eco-guards and the Customs department.
