Parliamentary Actions : Senator Empowers South West Youths

The legislator, Senator Papinatu Fonderson sponsored some youths in gaining skills in liquid soup production and other item fabrication.
There are 99 persons now in Tiko Subdivision with skills in bleach and liquid soup production. They gained the knowledge in a capacity building workshop organised on May 17 and 18, 2024, at the Youth Empowerment Centre Tiko. The training was organised by Senator Lionel Papinatu Fonderson as part of activities to mark the 52nd national day celebration. Trainees also received coaching on how to brand their products and commercialise them. “The participants are expected to set up businesses to help themselves to fight against unemployment. This is also a means in encouraging import substitute. If our people produce these detergents, then it will cut down importation,” he said. The Senator promised more assistance to those who shall invest interest in the liquid soap and bleach production.
Njume Sintia Pisang, a trainee, said she is moving straight into bleach and liquid soap production. She hold the proceeds from the goods will help her better care for her siblings and child. Qui Yenyui another trainee while expressing gratitude to the organiser indicated that the skills will alleviate many from poverty and hardship. She planned to engage innovative methods in her production so as to better market it in a way that it will help her community.
