Situation In NW/SW : Akwaya Traditional Rulers Preach Peace

Prime Minister, Head of Government, Joseph Dion Ngute received the custodians of culture led by Chief Ojong Asu Jean yesterday July 4, 2024.
Overwhelmed with the unreasonable killings in the Akwaya Subdivision, Manyu Division of the South West Region, traditional rulers of the locality were at the Star Building to present some of their frustrations. Led by the President of Akwaya Traditional Rulers Associations, Chief Ojong Asu Jean, they were received by the Prime Minister, Head of Government, Joseph Dion Ngute yesterday July 4, 2024. In the course of the working session, they pledged their support to government in the fight against terrorism and other crimes in the region. “The aim of our coming here is to let government know the plights of the Akwaya people during this crisis since 2017. For the past seven years, the Akwaya person has been under great tribulation. We have suffered, cried and carried blood in our hands because Chiefs, fathers, children and mothers have been slaughtered. And we are very helpless. The government has done everything possible at their level to help, but because of our enclaved nature with Akwaya having a vast area of forest and grassland in the 99 villages, things are slow,” Chief Ojong Asu explained to the press. According to him, the resources and military intervention sent to the locality are not enough, reason they came to the Star Building to plead with government for certain measures to be taken. The leader of the delegation used a metaphor of saying Akwaya is synonymous to illiteracy and no appointments to plead for their situation to be changed in the near future given that they now have several young men and women who are educated.
