Regional, Council Functioning : Ways To Better Serve Users, Population

The Office of the Public Independent Conciliator for the North West Region on July 2, 2024 organised a debriefing workshop for Regional and Council Authorities of the region.

From every indication, the 2024 Annual Report on the state of relations between citizens and regional and council services will show a great improvement in services and synergy of actions to bolster local development.
The Office of the Public Independent Conciliator for the North West Region in its watchdog and advisory roles is determined to continue to monitor the effective functioning of regional and council services. It was for this reason that the Office of the PIC organised a debriefing workshop for Regional and Council Authorities on July 2, 2024.  The workshop served as an occasion to present the findings of the survey on regional and council functioning to the officials of the Regional Assembly and Mayors and to raise awareness of the perception of citizens on how well the authorities are performing. The findings in the survey conducted in 2023, “were not good in many respects leaving the general impression that councils in their majority have not been living up to expectation of their citizens regarding the fulfilment of their missions,” the Public Independent Conciliator Tamfu Simon Fai stated.
The workshop also served as the occasion to present the   2024 mid-term evaluation report on the Regional and Council functioning in the North West Region. Participants discussed and exchanged views on the challenges Regional and Local Authorities continue to face in the discharge of their duties during the first half of 2024.
