Bilingualism, Multiculturalism : Institution’s Magazine Highlights Prospects

The most recent publication of the magazine of the National Commission for the Promotion of Bilingualism and Multiculturalism has highlighted major achievements of the institution for last year, activities already carried out in the first quarter of 2024 and prospects for the rest of the year. The 40-page bilingual document that covers the period January to March 2024 has picture illustrations and excerpts of the law on the promotion of official languages in Cameroon. The action plan of the institution for 2024 is also published in the magazine, making it convenient enough for readers to evaluate the path covered by the Commission from its actions already carried out.
The document opens with an editorial from the Chairperson of the Commission, Peter Mafany Musonge titled “high gear to hold communities together.” In the write-up, the former Prime Minister expresses ambitions to heighten field visits and sensitisation talks nationwide. This ambition gives reason to the just-concluded field visits by members of the Commission to various ports (airports and seaports) of Cameroon to evaluate the practice of bilingualism and social cohesion. “No matter how people from different tribes and ethnic groups spread out, we now find ourselves in a ‘cultural méttisage’ which calls for harmonious, tolerance, understanding and peaceful co-existence to forge a stronger country,” partly reads the editorial.
