Promoting Human Rights : Cameroon, UN Reinforce Cooperation

Prime Minister, Joseph Dion Ngute yesterday received the visiting United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk.
Within the context of further enhancing the protection and promotion of the rights of persons in Cameroon, the Prime Minister Head of Government, Joseph Dion Ngute, yesterday August 6, 2024 received in audience the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk who is on a 48-hour working visit in Cameroon. Both personalities had an overview of the human rights situation in Cameroon, with a particular attention on regions in crisis (North West, South West and Far North). The objective is collaborating better for reduced violations and abuses within the national territory.
In his declaration to the press after the about an hour audience, the visiting UN official said it was very important for him to be in Cameroon and to reinforce cooperation ties between every party as concerns the protection of human rights. “I have been received by the Prime Minister, Head of Government. Obviously there are many issues to be discussed and to reinforce the cooperation between the government, the people of Cameroon and my own office,” he stated. The High Commissioner for Human Rights added that with Cameroon hosting the Regional Office for Human Rights and Democracy in Central Africa, it is also an opportunity to use the institution to reinforce the principles of human rights promotion and protection.
Volker Türk is scheduled to meet other government officials, representatives of civil society organisation, leaders of political parties, and grant a conference at the International Relations Institute of Cameroon. Before his departure today August 7, 2024, he will grant a press conference ...
