Universal Health Coverage :Scheme Launched For SW/NW

Manaouda Malachie, Minister of Public Health, was in the South West Regional capital on 7 August, 2024 where he launched the second phase of Cameroon’s Universal Health Coverage (UHC) this time involving the Health Voucher programme. Buea, Tiko and Limbe Health Districts in Fako Division are the pioneer beneficiaries of the Health Voucher in the Region pending the extension of the exercise to the rest of the region.
The Health Voucher Programme targets only pregnant women and new-born babies. The Voucher covers all medical expenses including antenatal consultations, child birth even caesarean sections, and care of new-born up till 42 days of life. For the first beneficiaries in the South West Region, a total of 28 health institutions have been listed with eight in Tiko, 11 in Buea, and nine in Limbe Health Districts.
Minister Malachie urged all and sundry to make use of the new offer by government to improve on the health situation of Cameroonians. He explained that the amount of FCFA 6,000 simply pays for about 10 per cent of the cost of treatment for a pregnant and nursing mother while the rest is covered by the State.
