Foumban : Youngsters Get Close To Bamoun Culture

At around 7:30 AM on August 2, 2024, a group of young people assembled at the premises of Government Practicing School Group, Bafoussam and took off for the Foumban Museum. This visit was an initiative of Women in Art for the Protection of Cameroon (WAPPCAM) within the framework of its “Useful Holiday For Youths” programme.
Upon arrival at the museum, the youngsters, about 200 in number, were welcomed by the Museums’ Director, Nji Nchare. The children, aged between 4 and 18 years old were then divided into two groups. Each group was given a tourist guide to facilitate work. The children were told stories of how the Bamoun dynasty came to existence, while observing some precious artefacts that have been preserved in the museum over the decades. Their curiosity, and urge to learn more made them ask numerous questions that were all answered by the special team of tourist guides at the museum. The visitors also had the opportunity to see how the Sultan of Bamoun usually gets accompanied to the prayer ground on Fridays. 
Other activities that marked the visit to the prestigious site included; photography sessions, socializing, and a special dance performed by one of the music groups at the Foumban palace. The faces of participants were filled with much excitement, and delight.
