Music, Film, Theatre, Literature : The End Tale… And Time Of Artistes

Hardly a week goes by in Cameroon without a radio, television or social networks platform trumpeting the fate of a dying artiste, needing financial help from well-wishers. It is not uncommon to read about a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for an ailing singer or actor. It is usually shocking to watch on social media images of a one-time vibrant artiste in a skeletal state and bedridden due to an illness he does not have money to treat. Their miserable state and call for help does not only invoke pity from the population, but also brings to bear the question of what they did with the money they earned during their moments of glory on different TV screens and platforms.  
Currently on social media, there are several GoFundMe initiatives, calling on the population and lovers of certain musicians to come to the aid of their artistes. One of such reads “Tonton Boudor needs our support now that he has had another stroke.” The post further reads “This great man is a monument of Cameroonian music. He has always been there to support culture. He has always advocated excellence and quality. He has held the hands of many young artiste and through his multiple concepts, given visibility to many underground and mainstream artistes.” According to the author of the post, Boudor urgently needs support, as little as FCFA 500 from any donor. While adding a mobile money number for any financial transfer, the author of the post calls on anyone who comes across the publication to share because someone you know may know him or just be touched by the initiative and come to his aid. 
Another cry for help is also coming from the artiste Racine Sagath. “SOS Racine Sagath”, the post reads. The artiste, by his real name Paul Bede Onye is very sick and would have lost nearly 20 kilogrammes.
