“Cameroon Remains An Attractive Country Due To Its Geo-strategic Position”

A statement by the President of the Republic of Cameroon, Paul Biya during the bilateral meeting with the President of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping.

“The President of the People's Republic of China, General Secretary of the Communist Party,
Let me begin by thanking you for the warm welcome and hospitality that the Chinese authorities and people have extended to me, my wife and the delegation accompanying me since our arrival in your beautiful and great country.
I would also like to express our gratitude for these bilateral talks which have enabled us to discuss our major common issues and projects.
Cameroon's participation in the 4th Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation is in line with the long tradition of excellent relations between our two countries.
The fruitful cooperation between the Republic of Cameroon and the People's Republic of China and the ever deepening friendship between our peoples have elevated our partnership to the desired strategic level.

In its quest for progress and modernity, Cameroon needs additional and substantial financial resources to pursue its vision of emergence by 2035. Our goal is to build a stronger economy by developing competitive local industries that can process our mineral and agricultural resources to meet local needs and export large quantities of products.
I therefore urge your government and the Chinese private sector to continue to support us on this path by increasing their direct investment in Cameroon.
In this context, my country needs, for example, a wide range of modern equipment and materials in the military field, as well as technical support for their operation and maintenance.
We have huge infrastructure needs. We are planning the imminent launch of our second generation transformative infrastructure projects, such as the second phase of the Yaounde-Do...
