North West : Slow, Steady School Attendance

Pupils and students are slowly but progressively returning to school with private schools taking the lead.
The start of the 2024/2025 school year in the North West Region has been hit like in the previous-years by lockdown called by the non-State separatists armed group. This explains the unimpressive start of the classes throughout the region with public schools being the highest hit.
Reports on the second day of back-to-school for the 2024/2025 academic year indicate a steady increase in enrolment of students in the Secondary Education sector. Statistics disclosed by the North West Regional Delegate of Secondary Education, Baijong Ezikiel Ndifon indicate that on first day, September 9, 2024, the region recorded a total enrolment of 4,302 students with the Donga Mantung Division topping the enrolment chart with 4,236 students. The second Division in terms of attendance on the first day was Boyo with 55 students, Bui had eight and Mezam two. On the second day, September 10, 2024, the situation had greatly improved. Statistics at the Regional Delegation by midday indicated that Bui Division that had eight students on the first day had an enrolment of 767 students. Information from the field indicated that all Catholic Secondary Schools were already functional in Bui. The situation had also improved in Mezam Division that had only two students in school on Monday, September 9, 2024. On the second day, the enrolment figure in Mezam Division rose to 2,497 students with 2,450 of them in private schools and 47 in public schools.
By midday, the statistics for the second day of back-to-school were not yet available at the North West Regional Delegation of Basic Education.
