Summit of the Future 2024 : Cameroon Outlines Priorities, Interests

A national consultation prior to the summit took place yesterday September 12, 2024 at the Ministry of External Relations.
On September 22-23, 2024, there will be a Summit of the Future that will be held in New York. The once-in-a-generation summit seeks to enhance cooperation on critical challenges and address gaps in global governance amongst member States. It will be an opportunity for nations to reaffirm existing commitments, including to the Sustainable Development Goals and the United Nations Charter, and move towards a reinvigorated multilateral system better positioned to impact the lives of the population. Philemon Yang, Cameroon’s former Prime Minister is the President of the 79th United Nations General Assembly and will thus preside over the Summit.
In order to make a significant participation at the Summit, Cameroon, through the Ministry of External Relations, yesterday September 12, 2024 organised a national consultation that brought together State institutions and services, political stakeholders, legislators, organisations striving in youth empowerment and fostering the rights of women, non-governmental organisations and United Nations partners.
The proceedings centred on Cameroon’s priorities and interest, as well as its strategic stakes relating to the Summit, and held under the theme, “Multilateral Solutions for a better tomorrow.” The Minister Delegate to the Minister of External Relations in charge of cooperation with the Commonwealth, Felix Mbayu, on behalf of Minister Mbella Mbella, chaired the opening of the two-day consultation workshop which ends today. He noted that the Summit of the Future emerges as a beacon of hope for forging emerging noble international consensus on how to achieve a better today and safeguard the future.
