Bamenda III Council : FCFA 150 Million To Rebuild Burnt Hall

The Bamenda III Council has secured a FCFA 150 million grant from the Council Support Fund for Mutual Assistance (FEICOM) to construct a new hall to replace the one that was burnt by unknown individuals about a year ago. The information was made public during an outreach event of the Office of the Public Independent Conciliator (PIC) of the North West Region, in the council area of, October 11, 2024. The mayor said the funds have been made available already and that construction work will soon start, to the acclamation of the public present. The event did not only witness the presentation of the PIC, its missions and organisation, but also that of the Regional Assembly and the activities of the Council.
In his presentation, Yang Francis, Research Officer No. 2 at the Office of the PIC said the institution has the role of advocacy for respect of citizens’ rights and arbitration in the amicable settlement of problems between councils and the population, as well as a watchdog to make sure the rights of citizens are not trampled upon.
Meanwhile, the Fon of Nkwen and member of the Regional House of Chiefs, in the company of Ghejung Awunti, a Regional Councillor, presented the Regional Assembly and activities carried out since its creation such as the renovation of the Nkwen palace, the equipment of laboratories and workshops of some secondary schools in the region, the award of scholarships and payment of registration fees for the GCE exams for some students among other things.
