North West : Chief of Defence Staff Recommends Peace Path

Lieutenant General Rene Claude Meka evaluated the security situation in the 5th Joint Military Region in Bamenda on December 3, 2024.
The Chief of Defence Staff Lieutenant General Rene Claude Meka has appreciated and encouraged defence and security forces in the 5th Joint Military Region that is comprised of the North West and West Regions for the work they are doing to ensure peace and security. Particularly for the North West Region where separatist fighters have been orchestrating all acts of insecurity, the Chief of Defence Staff recommended ways on how the forces can continue to develop their mission on the field in order to bring back peace and security.
The Commander of the 5th Joint Military Region, Brigadier General Bouba Dobekreo made the revelation to the press at the Command Post of the Joint Military Region on December 3, 2024 after the in-camera working session the Chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant General Rene Claude Meka chaired. It is the Chief of Defence Staff’s second working session in t Bamenda this year within the framework of his operational control and security evaluation.
Speaking specifically about the security situation in the region, Brigadier General Bouba Dobekreo said it was relatively calm for the moment despite cases of kidnappings for ransom and other atrocities committed by separatist fighters. He said defence forces will continue to develop strategies in order to bring to an end t the atrocities, assuring of more efforts to ensure security and peace during the upcoming end-of-year festivities.
