North West : Tribute To Fallen Defence, Security Forces

The ceremony took place at the Command Post of the 5th Joint Military Region in Bamenda on December 20, 2024.
Soldiers, Gendarmes and Policemen and women who died while serving and defending the nation during the period 2016 to 2024 in the North West and West Regions were honoured during a ceremony in their memory at the Command Post of the 5th Joint Military Region in Bamenda on December 20, 2024.
The Commander of the 5th Joint Military Region, Brigadier General Bouba Dobekreo, presided at the event which was in its second edition. Speaking during the ceremony, he said that by deciding to defend the nation, the personnel of the defence and security forces put their lives in danger and their ultimate sacrifice should never be forgotten. By defending the nation and population against the barbaric acts of the separatist fighters, the General said, the fallen personnel showed courage and professionalism in all operations and further promised that their sacrifices would be perpetuated. He said their bravery will continue to inspire future generations. The General said the personnel will always be supported in their work and that government will put in efforts and means to ensure that peace and security return to the North West Region.
In strict military tradition, the Commander of each corps laid a wreath in front of the commemorative placard and paid tribute to the fallen personnel on the field. Brigadier General Bouba Dobekreo led the army, Brigadier General Housseini Djibo who is Commander of the 5th Joint Gendarmerie Region did same for the Gendarmes and the Regional Delegate of National Security for the North West, Police Commissioner Wilson Elong Njumejikang led officials of the National Security ...
