The 11th edition of the tournament rounded off at the Presidential Guard Sports Complex in Obili on Friday, December 20, 2024.
It was a festive atmosphere at the Residential Guard Sports Complex in Obili, Yaounde, on Friday, December 20, 2024. The event was the closing ceremony of the 11th edition of the Colonel Avi Sivan Abraham Cups and the end of the 2023 sports season of the Presidential Guard. Inhabitants of Yaounde and elsewhere turned out in their numbers to watch the event at the Presidential Guard barracks.
Sports lovers from Yaounde trooped to the venue as early as 9:00 a.m. to secure their sets in order not to miss any part of the event. The brass band of the Presidential Guard animated the occasion. The arrival of the Commander of the Presidential Guard, Colonel Raymond Jean Charles Beko'o Abondo gave the green light for effective business to begin. The event was celebrated in pump and pageantry. Last Friday’s ceremony brought together civil, military, religious and traditional authorities from the Mfoundi Division. Also present was H.E. Roger Milla, Olympic champion, Françoise Mbango and former Indomitable Lions players. The kick off of the first match was given by Françoise Mbango and some former footballers.
Spectators equally watched finals in other sports disciplines like the 100m, 400m, 800m and 1,500m free run with load, commando and relay race. There was also a demonstration in the karate sports discipline, horse race, dog demonstration and also display by the brass band of the Presidential Guard. In the senior men’s football final, Diapason beat Silver Black 3-1 through penalties after regular time ended 2-2. In the junior category, the Regroupement de Reconnaissance et l’Apui (GRA) beat Les Amis FC 2-0 to lift the trophy.
