North West : General Calm Reigned

Municipal councilors and traditional rulers reportedly turned out massively to vote Divisional Representatives and members of the House for Chiefs for the next five years.


The North West population is anxiously awaiting the official results of the regional council election of November 30, 2025 that will usher in members of the Regional Assembly and House of Chiefs for the second term of office. The election took place in an atmosphere of general calm as confirmed by the North West Regional Delegate of Elections Cameroon (ELECAM), Elvis Mbonwoh in the afternoon of the polling day. Statistics from ELECAM North West Regional Delegation indicate that some 1,439 voters were enrolled to take part in the election in the region. Over 991 of them were municipal councilors expected to vote the 70 Divisional Representatives of the North West Regional Assembly and 448 traditional rulers to vote for their peers who will occupy the 20 seats at the House of Chiefs.
North West Regional Governor, Adolphe Lele Lafrique who visited the polling stations for Mezam Division at Up Station Bamenda around 10 a.m. earlier saluted the polling atmosphere. Talking to the press after moving round to ascertain for himself the conduct of the polling operation, he said, “I will like to confirm to you from all the reports coming from the various Divisions, the polling stations were opened at 8 a.m. and they are going to close at 6 pm.   As you can see here, there is the mobilization of all the voters in the polling stations. As observed here, the process is going on hitch-free throughout the North West Region.”
For Mezam Division where voting took place in Bamenda, there was the massive presence of voters in the polling stations.
