South West: Football Tournament For Peace, National Unity

Tiko (Fako) - The Tiko Council FC has won the 9th edition of the Senator Lionel Papinatu Fonderson inter service football tournament. They defeated the Ministry of Secondary Education (MINESEC) by one goal to zero. The match played at the Upper Costains Field Long Street was used to commemorate the 54th National Day. In the first half, MINESEC thought they had taken the lead as their supporters dashed into the field of play jubilating. But the central referee, Ngole Leonard, judged it to be side netting. When play resumed, Tiko council displayed rigor and it paid through their centre forward midway into the second half. Six minutes later, Tiko Council FC were force to finish the match with a man down as their goal scorer was red carded for engaging in a needless fight. The winner took home FCFA 250 000. The runners up got FCFA 100 000 and the Cameroon Development Corporation (CDC) who emerged third got FCFA 50 000. The football final presided over by the Divisional Officer for Tiko, Nokuri Samuel, was a veritable platform for cultural display. The Orokos, Bamilekes among others showcased their cultures in songs and dances. The competition started in April and ran for a month with 10 teams. Senator Papinatu Fonders...
